What do I need to bring to Financial Aid?

If you are independent, you need to bring a copy of your 2010 federal tax return. If you are dependent, you need to bring a copy of your 2010 federal tax return and a copy of your parents' 2010 federal tax return.

How do I know if I’m a dependent or an independent student?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, you are a dependent:

  • Were you born before January 1, 1985?
  • Are you married?
  • Do you have children for whom you provide more than half of their total financial support?
  • Do you have dependents that you live with for whom you provide more than half of their total financial support, now and through June 30, 2010?
  • Are you an orphan or ward of the state?
  • Are you a veteran of the US Armed Forces?

What if I can’t find my tax return?

Call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040 and request a copy to be sent to you. A financial aid representative will be able to provide you with complete information on financial aid opportunities available to you. You can learn more about your financial aid eligibility and how to apply at the Federal Student Aid website.
